There’s something called the social contract that philosophers have been talking about for centuries
It’s basically the agreement between citizens and the government and how citizens give up certain freedoms and pay taxes in order to have powers that will protect them and keep the country safe and just.
And when one party breaks the social contract the other party has every right to revolt.
The philosopher that to my knowledge first brought this up was Thomas Hobbes in Levithan, I believe John Locke also mentions it.
But keep in mind this was what the premise that the constitution of America was founded on. This is written in the constitution that the people have the right to overthrow the government.
Like Julie said, if you break the social contract, the other party has the right to revolt.
reminder to white people as a white person myself: mourn for this injustice and fight for what’s right., but don’t make this about yourself. This is not about you.
you don’t want to see posts about ferguson? well me neither. i don’t want to see unarmed black people being murdered, i don’t want to see kids being shot by the people they were taught to trust, i don’t want to see white cops being rewarded for it all. but it’s real. it’s happening. just because we don’t want to see it doesn’t mean we can ignore it. ignoring it won’t make it go away.
minimum wage doesn’t even TOUCH a living wage, racism and sexism are alive and well, children are killed in schools on a regular basis, those who make it to college end up with hundreds of thousands in debt, our basic rights are being stripped from us daily, and adults actually believe that SELFIES are the cause for this generation’s demise

-Ferguson/Michael Brown -Mexico/ 43 missing (kidnapped) students -Hong Kong/protest against the government for democracy -Sierra Leone, Guinea & Liberia/still fighting Ebola -The Middle East/ISIS and other terrorist groups killing innocent people everyday -Nigeria/Boko Haram and the kidnapping of 300 school girls
